The Wakanda Forever series is a very interesting one. When I say series, that’s how it’s presented to us. Always in this intimate, emotional, and honest voice of the protagonist. What are some of the most harrowing moments you have faced? The ones that changed your life forever? Those are told with an air of nostalgia and sometimes even regretful longing for the time before they happened. It’s nice to hear someone relate those stories because these are just experiences that we all understand and can probably relate to in our own lives, even though they happen too often not to notice. The stories told in this series are of a woman, living an average life, who becomes involved in the events that changed her forever.

The plot of this series is very simple but extremely effective. It goes as follows:
This woman loses her job as a reporter and is devastated. To make things better, she decides to visit her father in Africa and instead gets mooched off by him. She ends up falling in love with his best friend and this causes some trouble between them. A few years after the break up she runs into her at a party where he has become an abusive alcoholic who abuses his woman and it’s revealed that he never stopped loving her.

What can we expect from the Wakanda Forever series?
We can expect nothing less than brilliant from this series. Surprisingly, this has been released so late in the year but I suspect it’s a reflection of the quality of the content. It’s an ambitious project and one that I can see gaining a cult following once it’s released. Also, very insightful on Wakanda’s politics and thoughts on the future of Africa.

Who are the director’s favorite characters and why?
The favorite characters of the directors are Shuri, Nakia, and Okoye. Shuri is female, she’s strong, intelligent, and beautiful. She knows everything about Wakanda and is destined to be the next ruler. She’s also a great role model for women from all around the world who believe in themselves and know how to be successful in their roles. Nakia for obvious reasons but Okoye is a really interesting character too because he wants a change in his country also people can see that “he” still has feelings for T’Challa’s mother Ramonda.
What themes does the Wakanda Forever series explore?
The themes explored in this series are very deep, especially the main one. The first part of the series explores the theme of “pride” and how it affects our actions and decisions. We see how a man feels pride in his country and is willing to do anything for his people. He does this even if he doesn’t have to as he has already made a lot of money as a doctor in America, but he still goes back to serve his people and fight for them. The second part of the story focuses on interracial love, how it’s so hard to be accepted by a society that sometimes you lose everything you hold dear just because they don’t see you or accept you as you are.
What are the critics saying about Wakanda Forever’s series?
The critics have not been talking a whole lot about Wakanda Forever’s series. Only a few have mentioned it, some saying that it will be a classic and others indicating that it could be its little tribe.
What does the future hold for Wakanda Forever’s series?
It seems there’s very little to expect for Wakanda Forever’s series. It’s the artist’s first full-length comic book and she is still very much under the radar so I wouldn’t say anything else is expected of them. It will be interesting to see where they go from here but I wouldn’t expect any more than what they already have planned.
