Maika Monroe plays Mary. She is a young woman who is struggling to deal with her loss. She has recently lost her father and she feels as if her life has crumbled around her. This becomes a great motivation for her to find out who the person is that is stalking her.
Mary soon learns about the existence of another person, another girl named Lucy, who is also being stalked by someone from the internet. We soon learn that the person from the internet is actually Lucy’s best friend and his name is Tyler Redmann.

What inspired you to write the Watcher Series?
The series is inspired from the incident that happened in 2013, Steubenville High School Rape Case. In this case, a young girl (16 years old) was gang raped at her school’s party. We want to tell people how dangerous it is to let social media or random people on the internet who are strangers to you take over your life and become obsessed with them.
Who are some of your favorite authors and why do you enjoy their work so much?
I’m a big fan of David Fincher films and that’s where I got the idea for the series. I started writing it while going to college, but after the first draft, the series was put on hold. I then rewrote it in 2016 and set this series in 2017 because I thought that would fit right into our current world.
Which part of the Watcher Series is your favorite?
Oh man, that is a hard question to answer as each episode goes through many different drafts before getting signed off by my team at South Korea’s Mirae Asset Securities and eventually being picked up by Netflix.
But in a general sense, I have to say the most difficult part of writing Watcher has been getting the first draft from rough to finished in such a short period of time. It took me over one year and many drafts to get it done, but I’m so glad I was able to give the series to my fans.
What was the hardest part about writing the Watcher Series?
When you write a script that’s 140 pages long and the characters actors can’t do everything you want them to do because of their physical limitations due to age or whatnot, it’s very difficult as you’re writing with your heart and trying not to break it.
And of course, you also have to figure out how long this all will take. Especially with a TV series, it’s one of those that you want to take your time to get it right because of the amount of people watching it. So I’m very happy and relieved that we got picked up by Netflix and they’ve been enjoying my script so far.
What are some things you would like to say about the Watcher Series?
The series tackles a topic that is very important in today’s society and one that I would like to encourage society with: Never be afraid to talk about what you’re going through, especially if it’s something difficult or scary for you. If you can talk about it, you can get through it. If you don’t, you’re in danger of losing yourself to someone else or something else that may want to control or hurt you.
