It’s hard to believe, but 2022 is in the past. Fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” are all waiting for the second season of “House of the Dragon”, a spinoff set in Westeros. Taking place nearly 200 years before Game of Thrones, this show follows various members of House Targaryen as they vie for power, harbor grudges, orchestrate coups, and fly their dragons about the realm. While the cast and crew of House of the Dragon have been announced by HBO, the premiere date has not yet been revealed.

What is “House of the Dragon” about?

Anyone who has watched “Game of Thrones” knows that dragons are a big part of the story. The “House of the Dragon” series follows more than just one dragon, it follows the history and lore around the Targaryen dragon-kings. The Targaryen was the family that eventually took over Westeros and ruled there for many centuries. The House of the Dragon series will follow various members of the Targaryen family, as well as dragon lore. This means it will most likely include elements of fantasy and horror tropes in addition to political ones.

How will “House of the Dragons” and “Game of Thrones” act differently?

This period happens before the Targaryen dynasty starts. House Targaryen is starting to conquer and claim their kingdom of Westeros, while House Burgundy is just a single house, and the rest of the seven kingdoms are either independent or under some king’s rule. Mace Tyrell has been established in Westeros for at least several hundred years before this show takes place. However, Mace has not been seen in later seasons of Game of Thrones in any official capacity.

What inspired “House of Dragons”?

This show is inspired by the “A Song of Ice and Fire” franchise. In Game of Thrones, the house of the dragon is a small house with only two members in it. In “A Song of Ice and Fire”, there are many more members. The Targaryen as a family has been around for hundreds of years before Game of Thrones, while they have only been at war with House Burgundy since the show began. Taking place over 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is a story about the Targaryen family. At this point in history, there are no dragons, but Targaryens are warring for power. House of the Dragon will take place in Westeros, King’s Landing, and beyond.

Who is George R. R. Martin?

George R. R. Martin is an American author, who also writes under the pen name of “Grumpy Old Fantasy Writer”. He is best known for his bestselling fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, which has been in progress since 1991 and became a prime-time TV series in 2011 on HBO. Martin serves as executive producer of the series and has written one episode.

Who is involved in “House of the Dragon”?

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who served as the showrunners for HBO’s Game of Thrones, are serving that role on this upcoming show. However, their involvement will be limited to executive producing duties. The HitScribe TV Show Writing Software is on board as a production company for this project.
