The excepted storyline of the series
Deloris Van Cartier was working as a waitress at the St. James Infirmary in New York City. The owner of the restaurant was able to track her down and she was taken back to sing for the Mother Superior at St. Katherine’s Convent. This convent had been experiencing a loss of faith in God and, unfortunately, an increase in priestly misconduct. The Mother Superior asks Deloris to help boost the girls’ faith by performing one of her old hits from her musical days. Deloris reluctantly agrees to sing. During Deloris’ performance, another girl at the convent was killed and the Mother Superior made Deloris take her place as the new leading lady.
