What are your thoughts on the 12 Monkeys series finale?

The thoughts on the ending of this series are exactly that, thoughts. I’ve read a lot of opinions on the subject, but I haven’t seen anything that makes me change my mind about the finale.

I think it was an appropriate ending for the show and that it is definitely a fitting end for Cole’s character. In fact, I would have liked to see these final moments play out as a standalone film instead of as part of a television series.

Do you think it was a satisfying ending, or did it leave too many questions unanswered?

I think it was a satisfying ending. I will say, a lot of people have complained about how open-ended the finale was, but I don’t remember anyone complaining about that when the show’s pilot aired.

The series opened with a pretty open-ended and ambiguous scene at Dr. Railly’s apartment building, and no one seemed to mind it then. It’s not like this is any different from the rest of the series in that respect. If anything, I thought it was better executed because by the time we got to this point, they had already established most of the major characters enough so that we could understand what exactly had happened at the end.

Were there any plot holes in the finale that you noticed, and if so, what were they?

In a general sense, I don’t think there were any plot holes. There is no way to make such a complex story as this one completely air-tight. If you want to nitpick and be extremely pedantic about it, sure, you can probably find some things to complain about but I think the show came out as good as it could have been given the constraints of being on a television budget and schedule.

The other thing that people seem to forget is that this was not the only time travel story this show told in its final season.

Did you like the time-travel aspect of the show, or would you have preferred to see more characters?

I thought it was interesting how they explored the consequences of time travel. At the end of the series, we got to see James Cole’s life (and, to some extent, Cassie’s) unfold over the past twenty years.

We also got to see a lot of different Cole’s. The first version that we saw in those first few episodes was a completely different character from any other version that we would have seen in the future episodes, so it was kind of cool to see what could have been if he had stayed on as Dr. Railly and continued trying to stop this plague from happening.

In your opinion, what was the most significant event in the series finale?

In the series finale, the most significant event had to be Cole finally crossing over into the future. Watching him arrive there, seeing what the plague had done to his friends and family, and then finding out that Cassie had decided to erase him from existence was great.

Do you think that Cole’s actions in the finale made sense with his established character?

All of Cole’s actions make sense because he is only doing what he thinks will save Cassie from Max Loken’s fate. He knows that if he doesn’t join Railly and Jones, they will die anyway because Katarina will not stop until she finds out where her daughter has gone.
