She contacted American Crime Story producer Ryan Murphy with an idea to tell this story as it had not been done before, and there has been renewed interest lately in the story.

The plot that was eventually picked had nothing in common with what she sent Murphy except for “a few names” from her original plot. Murphy explained he wanted one plotline to have something related to Hurricane Katrina as well as the Trayvon Martin plotline. The American Crime Story season three plot is going to be based on the story of George Zimmerman, a white man who was acquitted in 2013 for shooting dead unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
