AQUAMAN 2: A Second Superhero Movie Coming For The Fans!

The Aquaman sequel is coming in 2021! The first movie was released in 2018 and it became a box office success. Jason Momoa reprised his role as the title character from Justice League. It’s been over two years since the release of Aquaman and we still don’t know much about AQUAMAN 2 PLOT or when it will be released but that hasn’t slowed down the speculation for this second film.

ABOUT AQUAMAN SEASON 2:

The film is based on the DC Comics character who wants to unite the seven underwater kingdoms against an impending invasion from above. Aquaman doesn’t have any superpowers, but he has a magical trident and telepathy communication with marine life, making him one of the most powerful beings in existence, excluding those pesky gods!

RELEASING DATE:

Filming started on July 16, 2019. It is set to be released worldwide on December 21, 2022.

AQUAMAN SEASON 2 CAST:

The only confirmed cast member is Jason Momoa, who will be returning as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman. Amber Heard will not return to the sequel because she has publicly expressed that she does not like working with director James Wan and would rather do other projects. Nicole Kidman may join in a supporting role but nothing is confirmed yet.

  • Arthur Curry is recruited by Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) to find the Trident.
  • The villainous Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) may have a hand in this theft.
  • Nicole Kidman plays Queen Atlanna, Aquaman’s mother who has been missing for years

MALCOLM MERRITT: There is a possibility that Malcolm Merritt has joined this sequel as well and he would play Trench. This casting decision makes sense considering how popular the character was in AQUAMAN enough that Merrit was featured in a short film starring the character. Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Vulko are all returning for AQUAMAN PLOT too!

FILMING AND PRODUCTION:

Aquaman filmed for 140 days in Australia at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast, with some filming also taking place in Newfoundland Canada as well as Sicily. The sequel will start filming in July of 2021 for a release date of December 2021, which makes sense considering the first AQUAMAN film released back on December 21st, 2018. We all know that James Wan loves to play it safe and make sure his films are as good as they can be, so the release date might not change if they can finish filming in time.

AQUAMAN 2 PLOT:

The film will most likely be a continuation of the first one, but we know that there is some type of threat to Atlantis. In the first film, Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) was born to human parents and grew up on land with them until he learned of his true Atlantean heritage when a lighthouse keeper told him about it.

He was then taught by Atlantean guards how to survive in the water. He learned of his destiny as a hero and he saved Atlantis from its own people, who wanted to destroy it because they were afraid that their civilization would die out without new blood coming into town.

The second film will begin when Arthur Curry is recruited by Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) to find the Trident of Neptune, which has been stolen. The villainous Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) may have a hand in this theft and he’s also trying to kill Aquaman because his father decided to abandon him. Aquaman, the King of Atlantis, must do battle with Black Manta and find out why his father left before returning to face Queen Atlanna’s enemies on land and in the sea.

RATINGS FOR AQUAMAN 2 PLOT:

The first movie received mostly positive reviews and had a 93% fresh rating from the critics’ aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The critics loved Aquaman and it has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! One of the reasons they said people loved it was because it was funny and had a lot of action. The movie has an IMDb rating of 76% which is pretty good!

EXPECTATIONS:

The film follows the story of Aquaman, a half-human and half-Atlantean. He is well respected in his home city of Atlantis yet resents being considered an outsider by humans. Aquaman is the next movie in line after Shazam and Avengers: Endgame. It has a lot to live up to because Aquaman was so successful with critics and audiences!
