The ‘Archer’ Season 13 series premiere on FX was a hilarious, action-packed romp through the world of international espionage. Archer, a gruff, alcoholic gentleman spy/master code breaker is always full of surprises and this season is no exception. From the mysterious new region of “No Man’s Land” to his love interest Malory’s secret past as a Russian spy back in the day, there are plenty of things happening in this premiere episode. Despite some dark moments and significant character development scenes that make this episode feel like a long journey in its own right into what will be an explosive season, it sets up many exciting storylines that are sure to keep viewers engaged throughout the series.

The plot of the episode starts with a blank screen, the words ‘THIS IS A SPY HUNTERS’ alert, then the time code and description of ‘The Good Samaritan’. In the In thing scene, we see Sterling Archer in his red/white/blue uniform drinking a glass of scotch accompanied by Lana Kane. Archer is telling Lana about his latest client Malory who is “some Russian dude… you know, [he] wants to get his concubine back from this serial-killer guy that has her locked up. There was some violence involved and blah blah blah.

The series is inspired by the show which was created by Adam Reed. This series has been recognized in many ways, including a Peabody Award and Emmy Award nomination.  The series begins with an extended opening sequence in the country called “No Man’s Land”, where there is no law enforcement, no rules, and plenty of unexplained happenings occurring throughout the region.

What were some of the tricks that were used to produce such an amazing action?

The director wanted to make sure that they showed the characters as they are while they are in this dark region. The Director led a group of actors who had never worked together before, creating a large amount of tension on set as their issues came to light throughout the series.  Another great inspiration behind this episode was that it was shot on a soundstage in Los Angeles, where Hollywood stars really could be seen walking through sets daily.
