The Call Jane series is a coming-of-age, romance novel. It’s the story of Jane, a country girl struggling to survive her senior year in high school and avoid the reputation that precedes her. She finds herself caught between two worlds—the one she’s always known and the new life she has imagined for herself. This series offers an honest portrayal of how people end up becoming who they are. Every character is discovering themselves and growing into someone they never thought they would be. The Call Jane series is a story about friends, love, and family set against the backdrop of small-town America in all its beauty and sadness about wanting more than what we have but also recognizing exactly what we need to be happy.

Do you know the release date of the Call Jane series:

This series will be released on  28 October 2022. Also, the series has been renewed for a second season. Jane Evans returns home from college for the summer at her mother’s request. She hasn’t returned since the death of her stepfather, and she doesn’t expect to like it much this time, either. But then she meets Ben, a boy who seems determined to win a place in Jane’s life. As they begin to spend time together, he introduces Jane to new ways of seeing the world—and herself—and she begins to realize that her black-and-white view of people and places is limited and incomplete.

Here is the plot of the Call Jane series discussed:

The plot of the Call Jane series is about Jane Evans (Main Character) who has returned to her hometown for the summer. She is struggling to survive to avoid being dragged down by her reputation. Her stepfather’s death has changed her life, and she finds herself becoming more assertive and angry while simultaneously trying to manage everything in her life with a young man that seems to want nothing but to get under her skin. On the other hand, Ben Castle, a boy in school one year younger than Jane, is not welcome at all in the local high school. He is an outcast because not only does he looks different, but he comes from a very poor family which can’t help him financially or socially.

What inspired the director to write the Call Jane series?

The series is inspired by the book “An Untamed State” by Roxane Gay. I loved it as a piece of nonfiction, but as a story, I felt it didn’t have enough conflict and character development. Gay’s description of how she dealt with her trauma and the way she was treated by others was inspiring to me, so I wanted to create a character whose experiences put her in opposition to Ben. Ultimately I don’t think the ending is very different from the one in Gay’s book, but I hope my interpretation will be more interesting to readers.

What themes does the Call Jane series explore?

The themes include class struggle and psychological trauma. In her book, Gay talks a lot about how she is treated as a person of color, but also as a person who is struggling with mental illness. Her experiences in Haiti when she was forced to work as a housekeeper for several years make up the main background of the series. In my story, I’m exploring what class means to me. My character Jane does have some money, but most of her classmates take it for granted because they are from more affluent families than hers. They never appreciate what she went through to get into college until it’s too late for them to understand why Jane is angry and defensive about certain things.

What are the critics saying about the Call Jane series?

The critics have appreciated the way the director has handled the themes. According to them, the whole series is a journey of self-discovery and understanding. The director has captured that journey in a way that most people can relate to. In other words, it’s not just fantasy, but something that we all go through as we go through life.

Why should you watch the Call Jane series?

If you’re interested in this kind of coming-of-age story, then you might enjoy watching the Call Jane series because it’s gritty and raw while still being sweet and funny. It’s got some romance and action, but it also touches on some important themes like how class affects people’s lives.
