Joker: Folie à Deux is an American musical psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Glenn Fleshler. The film’s plot centers on the Joker, who abducts and tortures Gotham City Police Commissioner Sarah Essen (Beetz) for information about his daughter, who he believes is born of a romantic liaison between the Joker and Essen. The Joker plans to use Lady Gaga as a stand-in for his daughter to persuade Essen that he poses no threat. Meanwhile, two jaded detectives (Phoenix and Cullen) investigate the Joker’s crimes using a police sketch artist (Camp).
