What inspired the director to write the Gangs of London series?
The series is inspired by something that happened to me which is similar to what happens in London today. For me, it’s important to show some of these kids’ dreams coming true and not let them disappear with gang violence.
Why did the director decide to make this film?
My parents are from Ghana and they loved telling stories over the dinner table. I grew up in England and I never felt like there was a point where I could talk about my experiences growing up in a way that just felt natural. Many things happened in places like Tottenham, East London, and Camden around that period which we’re as equal if not more interesting than anything we see on TV at the moment.
Who are the director’s favorite characters and why?
The favorite actor from the series is Sope Dirisu. Why? The reason is – he was able to do a great job of portraying his character who was young but his character had an older man mentality. He was able to have such a powerful presence on screen that it allowed him to have a presence in every scene he was in.
