ABOUT THE CALL MIDWIFE:
CALL THE MIDWIFE is a British drama series that follows the nurses, midwives, and nuns from Nonnatus House as they navigate their way through the late 1950s. CALL THE MIDWIFE was created by Heidi Thomas who also serves as showrunner on the hit shows COLD FEET (ITV) and EASTENDERS (BBC ONE).
The drama series is produced by Neal Street Productions and distributed by BBC Worldwide. CALL THE MIDWIFE was commissioned for the BBC in 2012, before its first season premiered on PBS on Sunday nights from March 30 until May 18, 2014 (check local listings).
RENEWAL STATUS:
CALL THE MIDWIFE has not yet been renewed for a twelfth season. The show’s future looks hopeful though as it continues to hold onto its lead-in audience and averaged nearly three million viewers per episode in Season 11! With an average of 0.35 in the 25-54 demographic, “CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11” is expected to be picked up for another season on PBS!
RELEASE DATE:
The release date for “CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11” is expected to be January 2022, however, no official announcement has been made.
PRODUCTION:
Production began on Season 11 of CALL THE MIDWIFE in June 2019 and is set to wrap up in September 2021. The series will return with another eight episodes for its eleventh installment, which will likely focus on the midwives as they navigate their way through the late 1950s.
CALL THE MIDWIFE is currently in production on its eleventh season. No further seasons have been officially green-lit at this time, but the show’s future looks bright! Filming for “CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11” is taking place now.
THE STARRING CAST:
In addition to Finney and Froggatt returning for “CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11”, other original cast members expected to return for the eleventh season include:
- Jessica Raine as Chummy Brown.
- Helen George as Trixie Franklin.
- Linda Bassett as Sister Evangelina .
“CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11” will also introduce new cast members and characters, including a storyline involving Trixie’s baby.
RATINGS:
“CALL THE MIDWIFE SEASON 11 PLOT, CAST, PRODUCTION, REVIEWS” currently has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (critics) and 88% with the audience. In its first season on PBS, CALL THE MIDWIFE held onto over 70% of lead-in MASTERPIECE’s audience in the Sunday night time slot and averaged a 0.35 rating with viewers aged 25 to 54, according to Nielsen.
REVIEWS:
Reviewers agree that although “CALL THE MIDWIFE PLOT AND CAST” is not as strong as the previous seasons, it still delivers a solid season of heartwarming and inspiring stories. CALL THE MIDWIFE has received positive reviews from critics thus far and looks set to continue its success through another season.
EXPECTATIONS:
CALL THE MIDWIFE PLOT AND PRODUCTION are expecting a similar response from viewers with the introduction of new midwives and characters as well as further exploration into previously explored backstories.
