Chicago P.D. Season 9 is coming! You might be wondering what to expect from the season, so we’re here to fill you in on everything there is to know about the show’s ninth installment that will air on NBC at 10/9c. Many questions are surrounding how this season will play out, and it has a lot of people excited for what’s going to happen with Voight (Jason Beghe) as he heads into retirement and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) takes over command of Intelligence.
Season nine starts with Voight heading into retirement and Burgess taking over command of Intelligence. Voight (Jason Beghe) retires, and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) takes over command of Intelligence. The team is faced with a new set of challenges when an organized crime unit invades their turf, but they are determined to come out on top.
There has been no official date announced, but it is expected to be on screens in early 2022.
What will happen to Voight as he heads into retirement? Will his time at home be more difficult than expected without the job that’s defined him for so long? How is Burgess adjusting to her new role in Intelligence, and how will she interact with everyone on the team, including Lindsay (Sophia Bush)?
Burgess Quartermaine, Voight’s daughter and partner detective on Chicago PD. Her promotion to Intelligence has made her a more serious character this season. She also takes charge of the team in Voight’s absence. The rest of Burgess’ team at Intelligence includes Brian Rafferty (Sean Patrick Thomas), who is Voight’s right-hand man and best friend, as well as her boss.
This season, Burgess and her team are trying to figure out the connection between the two murders. The first murder is a young woman who was beaten up in an alleyway off of Michigan Ave., and the second victim’s body was found in a dumpster near Grant Park.
Chicago PD season nine began filming on April 23rd, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois, to premiere this fall on NBC. The show has been renewed for a tenth season which will be the final one of the series if it airs in 2022. The show is a spin-off of Dick Wolf’s other police drama, Chicago Fire; it has been praised for its strikingly realistic portrayal of the day-to-day lives and work styles in law enforcement.
The stakes are higher than ever before as this tenth season begins. New faces, new crimes, and a whole lot of tension for everyone involved. CHICAGO P.D.’s fifth episode’s ratings were up year-to-year (+39% in total viewers), while its ninth episode was the most-watched on NBC in that time slot since November 2022.
With my expectations being high because of this show’s history, I found myself disappointed and unsatisfied with Season Nine so far. The season has never felt as “real” to me as it did before. This is not a fault of the actors or crew; rather, it’s because so much is already “known” about this season that I’m not as interested in finding out what will happen next.
