Eiza González To Star In Biopic Of Mexican Actress Maria Felix

Eiza González is set to star in a biopic about the famed Mexican actress Maria Felix. Eiza will not be the only name attached to this new film, as A Private War director Matthew Heineman has been tapped to helm it. Deadline first broke this news, with the outlet also reporting that a Latin American screenwriter is being sought after for the project.

About Eiza Gonzalez

In 2015 she appeared on three episodes of the final season of Entourage as Alexa PenaVega’s character Christina Milian’s sister Mia. In 2016 she appeared on two episodes of Jane the Virgin as well as a guest role on Supergirl.

As of April 2018, Eiza Gonzalez is now Apple Music’s first-ever Latino artist-in-residence. Her main duties will be to curate playlists and “bring attention to fresh talent.” She said that she was offered deals with other streaming services but went with Apple because it allowed her freedom, unlike Spotify or Google Play Music, where artists are required to follow specific rules if they want their music streamed for free.

Eiza said she was inspired by her mother when it came to designing clothes, saying that she “wears pants.” Specifically pointing out a pair of black trousers with gold adornments that were part of a long white dress designed by herself and Manish Malhotra, which she wore to the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place on August 27, 2017.

Gonzalez released a statement regarding the film: “Maria’s tenacity and fierce way of living through some of the hardest adversity I’ve witnessed have inspired me and many more,” she said. “I’m incredibly honored to be playing here and to be bringing her voice and story to the world. Maria constantly pushed boundaries and lived by her own rules while the world tried to tear her down. I’ve always believed her life needs to be seen around the world, for people to learn more about how society depicts successful and driven women.”

The film is currently in the pre-production phase as Eiza has been busy with press for her role in Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She’ll also be seen on screen this fall opposite Taron Egerton and Colin Firth in the historical drama The King’s Daughter, which tells the story of a young woman who is abducted and held prisoner for ten years before being freed.
