The Elvis series is a set of paintings that were inspired by the biblical story of Noah and the Flood. Elvis comes from the idea that if everybody was given so much time on Earth, what could they achieve in such a short period?
Elvis is an artist who has allowed God to give him so much material wealth he has been able to make artistic legacies for centuries. The spiritual lesson for us all is selflessness or giving up your life completely for another’s happiness. The artist calls it “amazing generosity.” The paintings of the series are created by rearranging the letters E-L-V-I-S, about 100 times each so that different sequences of letters become word art. It is an ancient Chinese concept of balancing opposites called yin and yang or heaven and earth. For example, in heaven, there are white clouds and light blue rainbows while on Earth there are dark storms and violent thunderstorms.

This was done to show the influence wealth had on his outward appearance. It also shows that success in life did not happen overnight for him.

The plot of this 16-part series is based on a group of people who were given 1000 years to live. They were given this gift by a wealthy and generous man who had been given 900 years of life back. The man wanted to share his blessing with others. In the first painting, Elvis is shown raising his hand in surrender while being arrested by two men. It was a result of his generosity towards the poor and his sharing of food with them. Although he was only trying to please God, he was arrested and put in prison. Elvis’ followers called themselves “The Faithful.” They believed that Elvis’ arrest was a test set up by God, who would reward him for his faithfulness even in the face of death or imprisonment.

Thousands have auditioned for the role of Elvis, but only seven have made it all the way to screen testing — including Tom Hanks. The director was very impressed with his performance as Colonel Parker – which meant he had a close relationship with him before casting him in the movie.
