Eternals 2, which was originally put into the end of Eternals’ script, would have had the Celestial Tiamut essentially destroy all of humanity.

Then, the last image would have been one of a baby in a crib; then you’d see that baby grow up and become Thanos. Zhao revealed that they are having another bleak ending, stating that while she is used to pensive stories, the ending didn’t go down well with the audiences, also it being to be removed from the tone of the MCU.

What themes does Eternals 2 explore?

The themes and tone of the Eternals 2 are based on Zhao’s interests, which are humanity and belief. While Eternals 2 works in the format of a historical epic, it also analyzes how human beings tend to hold a distorted view of the past.  Other than this, Zhao’s other inspiration is to simply show that she can create and write a story regarding superheroes. She states that she has always wanted to be able to tell a story that affects people in ways similar to the characters of this film, who are “able to connect with them and believe in them.”
