With the premiere of Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones just around the corner, we recap season 1 with Deborah Vance, who plays Lyanna Stark in the show. In this interview, Deborah talks about her character and her experience on the set for Game of Thrones.
I think Lyanna is very similar to me in some respects. She’s a tomboy and she’s not a lady at all times, but she knows how to be one when she needs to be. She’s very much a motherly figure, and she’s very strong. It took a lot of focus to keep her in that power, to keep her in that strength. And it was hard to do at times because you want to be vulnerable, but you don’t want to break your mother’s character.
Do you know about the release date of ‘Hacks’ Season 2:
This series will be released in February 2022. Also, the series has been renewed for a 3rd season. I have used the books to help create my character, but I do not read them because they are too long and I like to be surprised. So I just use some of the memorable scenes from the books to help me with my line delivery.
Did you have a good time working on Game of Thrones: Season 1? It was a lot of fun, but at times stressful because it was new to me, and everyone involved is giving their very best performance every time they come out and film.

Season 2 picks up directly after the last episode of Season 1, which ended with the tragic death of Lyanna Stark. Although right before the season finale, Lyanna’s body was stolen, and it was never found until now.
In this season, Lyanna is still missing and her family is trying to find her body. Also in this season, we are introduced to another new character named Marissa who works for someone who is trying to find Lyanna’s body. At the same time ‘Hacks’ Season, 2 will explore themes such as identity, family, and history as well as relationships between parents and children.

What can we expect from the ‘Hacks’ Season 2?
We can expect to see more of Lyanna and her family’s lives. We are going to see where Lyanna’s body is, and we are going to see how the characters deal with that situation. I think that the plot is very interesting because it shows all sides of what people go through in their life such as identity, family, history, relationships between parents and children. The cast is incredible and they bring this story to life.
How is ‘Hacks’ Season 2 different from the first season?
In this season, we have more characters and more conflicts. Also, there is a new character Marissa who works for someone who is trying to find Lyanna’s body but it’s hard for her to keep the secret. In Season 1, we mostly saw the characters interact with each other and I liked this part of the show because they were very funny and funny scenes were shown.
How did you prepare yourself to play Lyanna Stark on ‘Hacks’ Season 2?
I studied Game of Thrones with Alex Graves and Dino Andrade since I did not read them before I started shooting. Game of Thrones is written well and it is easy to play it because we have the queen’s characters to look up to. We have an incredible cast and we all get along very well, so it is not hard for me to be a part of the show with all these talented creators.
In this season, Lyanna’s body is missing and her family is trying to find her body. I think that people need to see that there are consequences when they do bad things, which in the case of my character means death.
Do you have any idea what happens in the ‘Hacks’ Season 2?
We are not sure how exactly it will happen but we know that Lyanna is still missing, so her family continues to search for her body. I thought that it was a very powerful and emotional episode and I loved the twist ending! It made me cry, which is something I never do. I tried to imagine what was going through Lyanna’s mind as she lost her life, and I felt a lot of sympathy for her.
What is your favorite part of the ‘Hacks’ Season 2?
I love the characters and my favorite character is Marissa. I think this is an incredible season and I am very excited about it, especially for the next two episodes. It is exciting for the season to keep going and the exploration of the characters and their relationships.
Several characters come out of left field in this series, with characters from other shows popping up unexpectedly, which I love because it makes sense. Also, no one thought Lyanna would be killed off so early in the show and it shows how death is often seen as a consequence of bad behavior.
