The show premiered in September 2016 with a plot that focused primarily on the disappearance of Jack (Randall’s father) during Halloween 1989 as well as their struggles to be open about their feelings for one another.

RENEWAL OF THE SERIES:

NBC renewed the series for a sixth season before Season Five had even started airing. The plot of Season Six is still unknown but it’s “safe to expect some sort of denouement” due to show creator Dan Fogelman hinting at a ‘redemption arc’ in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

THE PLOT:

Season six of “This Is Us” will focus on Toby, Randall, Kate, and Kevin as they make their way through a decade that redefines who they are both individually and together as siblings. we’ll find out how Toby copes with his grief over losing Rebecca Pearson after her death at the end of season five when she was finally diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Toby will be trying to follow through on Rebecca’s last wishes by finishing his memoir and making their house into an art studio for children.

He’ll also have the added challenge in this episode of navigating Kevin and Kate, who are both dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder from their separate tragedies. Kevin will be trying to find a way to feel like he can co-parent with Kate, who is angry at him for putting her through losing the man she loved and his father in one day. He’s also going on tour as Juliette Barnes’ opening act.”

Meanwhile, Kevin has been keeping secrets from Beth and Kate about his relationship with Olivia. When Kevin and Emma are in a car crash, it will show the trauma that he’s been dealing with since losing Jack.” The show’s creator said that “the final season will be a story about redemption” and as we all know, the Pearson family has plenty to redeem themselves for after three seasons of twists and turns.

THE STARRING CAST:

Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore. We’ll see more from Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and Toby (Chris Sullivan), who were only used as plot devices in the earlier seasons, but haven’t had their stories told yet.

The plot will pick up to the point where it left off last season with Kevin and Kate on their first date together. “The plot of this final year does not involve time travel,” said creator Dan Fogelman at NBC’s Television Critics Association meeting on Saturday.

EXPECTATIONS:

The plot of this final year does not involve time travel, which means that the plot will be more or less resolved in season six without any need for a seventh installment. “There are so many big questions we’ve posed over the course of the last five seasons and it felt like if we’re going to answer them,” said Fogelman at NBC.
