Winter is coming again. HBO has just announced that the House of the Dragon series, a Game of Thrones spin-off, will premiere in 2020. This new series is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, which tells the story of House Targaryen 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Fans are already excited about this new series, and we can’t wait to see what it has in store. Another Game of Thrones spin-off series has also been announced, but no word on a release date yet.

Do you know about the release date of the House of the Dragon Series:

The series will be released on 21 August 2022. Also, the series has been renewed for another season by HBO. The fantasy and Science Fiction series will premiere in 2021. The network also stated that they are planning another spin-off series, which will follow House Targaryen’s children as they travel to Westeros and take back their ancestral home. The episodes count for series 3 to be 20+ but it is not the last chapter for the series.

Here is the plot of the House of the Dragon Series:

The series will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and follow the Targaryen family as they attempt to return to the Iron Throne after Aegon’s conquest of Westeros.

Set in an age when dragons and magic were commonplace and castles with seven towers were not just common but expected, “Fire & Blood” reveals not only major events in this history — such as the daily life (and death) of a Targaryen prince — but also a detailed look at the politics of Westeros itself, shedding new light on everything from the game of thrones between Aegon’s daughters to what exactly was up with that dragon pit.

What inspired you to write the House of the Dragon series?

The series is inspired by my passion for Game of Thrones and I think that the fans are going to love it. I also love the world that George R.R. Martin has created and a spin-off series will be a great opportunity to explore more of it.

The House of the Dragon series is set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones, during the Targaryen conquest of Westeros. The dynasty’s goal is to reclaim their ancestral lands after Aegon’s conquest and will bring with them their only son Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).

Are there any characters in the series that are based on people you know in real life?

I am a very private person, and I’m not sure if I can answer this question. Obviously, the characters in House of the Dragon are fictional, but they are inspired by people I’ve met in real life – on who my characters would be based on.

Do you have any specific scenes that stand out to you?

I think the scene where Daemon’s father king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) learns that dragon fire is an effective weapon and sends his son Daemon to retrieve one from the Summer Islands was one of my favorites. It was written so perfectly – and also Paddy is brilliant as Viserys!

How did you become interested in the world of fantasy and science fiction?

I have always been a fan of Game of Thrones, I think the show is brilliant, and I’ve read most of GRRM’s books. The world he has created is amazing. Chris Newman and Daniel James have been working on a script, which will go into production next year, so it is really exciting to see it all come together.  After HBO announced that they were moving forward with development on three different spin-offs, it sounds like we won’t be getting just one brand new GoT series in the near future.

Do you have a favorite scene in any of the books and if so, could you tell us what it is?

I love the scene in A Dance With Dragons where Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his sister Daenerys Targaryen-Baratheon (Emilia Clarke) are talking about the value of gold. It’s a great moment where he finally shows a glimpse of his ruthless nature.

What other characters do you want to direct a movie? What is your dream project?

I would love to direct “No One Gets Left Behind”, written by E.T. Bell, where you play a father on an impossible mission to rescue his daughter from an underground base being used as a prison camp by an evil government organization.

If someone has never read any of your books before, which one would you recommend?

I think the best place to start would be “The Winter King”, which is a series of three books about the Roman conquest of Britain. It shows you how wars were fought in ancient times, what it was like for people to live under Roman rule, and follows the story of their greatest general as he rises from a low-born cavalryman to one of history’s greatest generals. It is a great adventure story and I think it will appeal to anyone who enjoys watching Game of Thrones.
