Love and Thunder is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Thor comics published by Marvel Comics. It is a sequel to 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, and the seventeenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).In Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman will return as Jane Foster, who becomes the Mighty Thor after being deemed worthy by Mjolnir. In an interview with Collider, director Taika Waititi reveals why he chose Natalie Portman to play Mighty Thor.
“I don’t know, she just seems very Thor-like,” Waititi said. “And she’s a big old superhero. She’s like 6 foot 3 and she’s a giant. I was trying to think of who would be able to play that part and Natalie kept popping up in my head.”

Rene Russo said that she would be interested in returning as Sif in Love and Thunder, despite being in the middle of filming The Death of Stalin. She stated: “I think that [Portman] looks amazing as Thor right now, but I think I would look good behind her also.”

What inspired the director to write the Love and Thunder series?
The series is inspired by the “Avengers” films but it is a fun, comedic, and more personal story. The story is meant to connect people with the movie and Taika Waititi wanted these movies to be his way to communicate with fans. The title of the movie is inspired by the importance of family and love in everyone’s life.

We do not know what Nebula’s role was in her father’s scheme though we do know that she has now returned to Asgard after her defeat at Loki’s hands in “Thor: Ragnarok.”
Why did the director choose to focus on Norse mythology in particular?
Waititi wanted to focus on the part of Norse mythology with which he is most familiar. This allowed him to form connections with his characters and culture. The director wanted to “subvert” the classic Thor franchise. He has also said that he did not want the movie to be like any other movie but he wanted it to be a “Taika Waititi spin on a classic Marvel story”.

Taika Waititi uses humor in his movies because he tries to make people laugh. He says that if you can make someone laugh, you have their acceptance and attention and this will then let them open up their minds to the rest of the story instead of just getting ahead of themselves. What happened in the first two Thor films?
The second film has Thor captured by Loki who hopes to take over Asgard for himself by manipulating Odin into believing that Thor is lost and needs to be replaced. Jane Foster is still dealing with the illness that keeps her from becoming the Mighty Thor, but thanks to the help of Dr. Strange, she is able to finally lift Mjolnir and become a hero again. The third film ended up setting up a chain of events that led directly into this next movie.
