The plot of Mulan sequel or Mulan 2 is set one generation after the events of Disney’s 1998 animated feature film, Mulan. The plot will take place a generation later and go in-depth into Chinese culture during the Tang dynasty. This American fantasy action drama film is directed by Niki Caro and produced by Chris Bender, Jake Myers, Jessica Virtue, Renee Wolfe from Walt Disney Pictures. It stars Yifei Liu as Hua Mulan who was born to a family that has been disgraced for three generations because her great-grandfather stole from the emperor.

When is the Mulan sequel releasing?

The release date for the 2nd part of Mulan has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be on screens in late 2022 or early 2023.

Mulan is a 2018 American musical adventure film directed by Niki Caro, written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. Niki Caro will direct the movie and her previous films include “Whale Rider” & “McFarland, USA”. Niki Caro is set to direct the sequel.

The filming of the Mulan sequel started on July 31, 2020, and it will be shot in New Zealand.

The first part of Mulan has won many awards like Shanghai Film Festival: Audience Award for Best Actress (Lucy Liu), Audience Award for Best New Performer (Mulan) & Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture. Houston Film Critics Society Awards – Winner o Best Animated Film & Best Original Song (I’ll Make a Man Out of You).

The first part of Mulan has made a gross revenue of $304,300,593 domestically & $303,900,000 in other territories.

The plot for the sequel is based on an upcoming Chinese epic fantasy drama film, “Mulan II” by Walt Disney Pictures. The plot of Mulan follows a young girl who disguises herself as a man. She fought against the Huns with her father’s honor and her family name. She becomes one of China’s greatest heroines in history. Mulan plot is about a Chinese woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army and fight against invaders from China.

Disney also describes the plot as “The epic adventure follows the spirited Mulan, who disguises herself as a warrior in order to save her father. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior. Hua Mulan is spirited, determined, and quick on her feet. when the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her aging father.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a score of 60% based on reviews from 38 critics. At Metacritic which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics. The film received an average score of 55 based on 21 reviews indicating mixed or average reviews.
