The Prey for the Devil series of books has been getting great reviews, with the author saying “The idea of the Devil as an all-consuming force is as old as time. It’s also frightening when you think about it.” That’s why we’re taking a look at this new movie that depicts exorcism horror pretty accurately. The story follows a group of young adults who undertake an exorcism on a possessed boy who is already dead, though they’re left as the new possession victims, and as usual, the Catholic church gets in their way. The movie is directed by Scott Derrickson (who has also done the recent Sinister), and stars Ciaran Hinds and Madeline Carroll, with other members of the cast to be confirmed. The film doesn’t have a great deal going for it in terms of ratings or reviews, so I’m confident in saying there won’t be very many people flocking to see this.

We can expect a lot of jump scares and blood, lots of blood. The fact that this series has been slated as “The most uplifting possession movie since The Exorcist” fills me with dread. It looks like it’s going to be full of all the usual tropes that we’ve seen in these movies, the girl who can’t interact with people so she prefers to wear a robe and have her face painted white and the possessed kid who likes to play pranks on his family before deciding to kill them all.
