RELEASING DATE:

THE PLOT:

The series follows Annie’s moral descent as she tries to do right by her family while also being a good soldier for the company; until events make that impossible. The first season takes place in San Francisco, California, where we meet Mae Holland (Emma Watson), who becomes an employee at The Circle, a company that provides the social media service circles.

As she becomes increasingly connected to the system and falls under its spell, it soon becomes clear that the company is not all they seem.

PRODUCTION:

The Circle season two is being filmed in Toronto. Season one was also filmed in Canada, and there are no plans to change filming locations the third time around. Screenwriter Dave Eggers said that they were going for a “less alienating” look in the show’s third season to make it more relatable for audiences.

EXPECTATIONS:

Producer Emma Watson said that the third season would be “a bit darker.””It’s very much all about what it is to live in a world where you’re so engulfed by social media. The different ways we manipulate people, how we can get them to do things – and not just getting people to like us or buy our products, but getting people to believe things.”

RATINGS:

The Circle has a Metacritic score of 65 out of 100, based on reviews from 27 critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 50% with an average rating of 54%. The site’s critical consensus reads, “A well-acted but poorly executed dystopian thriller, The Circle is a middling effort that lacks the originality and nuance of its source material”. Season three of this series follows Mae and her friends, who are now fugitives after a large-scale breach in privacy was leaked by people from The Circle.
