What inspired you to write The Craft Series?

This series is inspired by the famous American supernatural horror film directed by Andrew Fleming and starring Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True. The film’s plot centers on a teenage girl who is drawn into a witchcraft cult. I remember I watched The Craft when it first came out in cinemas and was so scared I slept in my parent’s bed for two days straight! I also remember being mesmerized by the soundtrack, especially Dragula! Most of all I loved how wonderfully sinister the four main characters were.

Are there any specific themes or messages that you were hoping to communicate?

This story is about four young women who have been victimized by bullying and abuse. The girls come together to learn a craft from an older woman who was also bullied and abused.   They soon turn their new powers on the bullies and become seductive, manipulative, murderous witches. The series is called The Craft Series because I wanted to show that there is something powerful within us if we allow ourselves to tap into it. We can be the makers of our destiny, rather than victims of circumstance or those who are easily manipulated.

Do you have any favorite scenes or characters from the books?

In the first book in the series, I liked the scene where Bonnie’s mother is talking to her psychiatrist. It was a powerful moment that shows how abusive relationships can be either emotionally or physically cruel.

Why do you think people should pick up this series?

I believe that everyone has a little witch in them, but unlike the girls in The Craft Series, most of us don’t allow ourselves to be empowered. We don’t feel we deserve it. This story is about four young women who realize that they are worthy of power and refuse to allow themselves to continue to be victims of their circumstances or the people around them. Sometimes you have to take a stand for yourself, even when you’re scared.

How has your experience as an author changed since The Craft Series was published?

It’s been both an exciting and frightening process, and I’ve learned a lot about myself as both a person and a writer. I’m pretty open about myself on social media, which allows people to know who I am as a person. Learn what makes me tick.   What makes me happy and what ticks me off! Readers want to know their favorite authors. They want to see behind the curtain in some ways, but most of all they want to feel like the author was completely honest with them.

I decided to release the series with a blurb to this effect: “We all have a little bit of darkness inside us. I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that writing these books has been easy for me. I’ve questioned myself as a person and an author.”
