It has been announced that the director of the Academy Award-nominated film, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will be directing the adaptation of The Fortress of Solitude for Amazon Studios. Variety reports that the project is based on Jonathan Lethem’s New York Times best-selling novel about two friends coming to age in 1970’s Brooklyn.

Plot Summary of the movie “Fortress of Solitude”
The story talks about two boys coming of age in 1970’s Brooklyn. Dylan Ebdus and Mingus Rude, who comes of age in 1970s Brooklyn. After receiving a magic ring with the directive to fight evil, Dylan and Mingus forge an indelible bond. But as the years pass, their experiences and opportunities grow increasingly disparate.
There are things even a magic ring can’t solve: Dylan is white, and Mingus is Black, and in America, that makes a world of difference. It is a 2003 semi-autobiographical novel by Jonathan Lethem set in Brooklyn and spanning the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s. It follows two teenage friends, Dylan Ebdus and Mingus Rude, one white and one black, who discover a magic ring. The novel explores the issues of race and culture, gentrification, self-discovery, and music. The novel’s title is a reference to the Fortress of Solitude, a fortress constructed for Superman.
