What is “His Dark Material” story about?

The series was produced by BadWolf Entertainment and was based on the first book in the “In His Dark Materials” trilogy, Northern Lights. The show followed Lyra Belacqua, an orphan living in a parallel world who is searching for her father, Lord Asriel. She meets new creatures and friends as she traverses this mysterious world called Cittàgazze. Many other characters from the trilogy were also featured throughout the series including Pantalaimon (Philip Pullman’s version of Pan), Will Parry, Dr. Mary Malone, and Lord Asriel. However, the show was canceled after only one season due to poor ratings.

The show’s cast includes Dafne Keen as Lyra and Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter. The big names in the TV world including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Philip Pullman helped cast Dafne Keen for the lead role in His Dark Materials, which was her first English TV role. She is famous for the movie Logan In which she plays the role of Logan (Huge Jackman) daughter X23.

Are “The Golden Compass” and “His Dark Materials” from the same universe?

Yes, the two are from the same universe. They both center around Asriel and Lyra. However, “The Golden Compass” was a prequel to His Dark Materials which was set before the events of the original trilogy. The Golden Compass focuses mainly on Lord Asriel’s search for Lyra in another world called Narnia, which is also part of Pullman’s In “His Dark Materials” universe. His Dark Materials page on Goodreads says that he likes to read the book to give the readers a better understanding of Lyra’s story.
