HBO’s addictive crime drama, TRUE DETECTIVE, is set to return for its fourth season in 2022. The series has seen a lot of cast changes over the seasons, and this one will be no different. Season 4 will see Colin Farrell step into the role of Ray Velcoro as well as Vince Vaughn taking on Frank Semyon’s character. Meanwhile, Taylor Kitsch joins in as Paul Woodrugh. ABOUT “TRUE DETECTIVE” SEASON 4:
HBO’s TRUE DETECTIVE is an anthology series that premiered in January 2014. The first season followed the criminal investigations of Detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, respectively. While the second season was a completely different story with new characters, it still retained its noir tone.

Truel Detectives is an American anthology crime drama television series created by Nic Pizzolatto that premiered on January 13, 2019, on HBO. Season four will be directed by Daniel Sackheim and written by Jeremy Saulnier with Pizzolatto as executive producer alongside David Milch, Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey (one of the stars of season one), Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros, and Richard Brown.

FILMING:
According to Deadline, the filming of True Detective season four has already started in California on June 17th, 2020.
RENEWAL STATUS:
HBO confirmed on April 26, 2019, that a new season would be coming soon, which will be set in California, and that Ali, Farrell, McAdams, Kitsch, Pizzolatto are all set to return. The fourth season of True Detective is expected to premiere in 2020 on HBO with eight episodes per the season’s run time as opposed to six like previous installments.
“TRUE DETECTIVE” SEASON 4 PLOT :
The story will still revolve around the death of Ben Caspar, a city manager in a fictional California town. The corrupt detective Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) is assigned to investigate his murder. What initially seems like an open-and-shut case becomes complicated when it’s discovered that Caspar was working with Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn) to move stolen money through the construction of a high-speed railway. As the case unfolds, it becomes apparent that Caspar’s murder is a result of multiple conspiracies.
THE STARRING CAST :
- This season, there will be some new faces in key roles.
- Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are set to play two police detectives who must navigate the corrupt political landscape of California as they hunt for a murderer.
- In January 2019, David Morse was cast to play the role of Paul Winter, and Mamie Gummer signed on as Detective O’Reilly in February 2018.
REVIEWS:
The first season of True Detective received a lot of praise and criticism due to its unique storytelling structure. The second season was met with mixed reviews from critics, who were skeptical about the plot’s chronology and quality compared to the previous installment. Reviews for the show’s season have been mostly positive, with many critics praising Mahershala Ali’s performance in particular. The Hollywood Reporter stated that “the show feels fresh again,” while Rotten Tomatoes gave a score of 71% with an average rating of six out of ten based on 36 reviews and a critical consensus reading, “Season Four’s familiar setup yields a few thrilling moments, but overall it lacks the creative spark of its predecessor.”
EXPECTATIONS:
Following the success of Season Three, expectations are high for Season Four. AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan stated that the fourth season of True Detective is expected to be “its first breakout” in terms of viewership.
