Willow, the fantasy film from George Lucas, is getting a sequel series on Disney+. The new series, Willow: Warwick Davis reprises his role as Willow Ufgood as he assembles a team of unlikely heroes to protect the world from evil.

The series is said to take place in the months following the events of the original film, where Ufgood and his team have to deal with a mysterious new threat threatening their home planet: Warwick Davis, Imelda Staunton, Stephen Fry, and Faye Marsay will star as the main characters in this upcoming series.

This series will be released on 28 June 2024. Also, the series has been confirmed for a 2-season run. In the series, Willow and his friends continue to protect their world from evil.  However, they have to deal with a mysterious new threat that strongly threatens their home planet: Warwick Davis, Imelda Staunton, Stephen Fry, and Faye Marsay will star as the main characters in this upcoming series. We don’t know if this is a sequel or prequel of “Willow”.

Was there any influence from ‘Lord of the Rings?

The idea to make Willow 2 was conceived by George Lucas during his early work on Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. He wanted to bring back Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood in a new movie after he’d finished work on Return of the Jedi. The plans for Willow 2 were hard for Lucas to get off the ground, mainly because of the success of J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series and its influence on modern fantasy films. 

What is the story behind Lucasfilm’s Willow?

The Willow project was in the works for over a decade, but now finally it has started in earnest: “Willow was something that George always wanted to do,” says Kathleen Kennedy, who heads Lucasfilm under Disney and is driving the revival of the franchise with Davis. “He’s talked about it on and off.”
