Another Life, the sci-fi series starring Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff, has been canceled by Netflix after two seasons. After the first season was met with positive reviews, the second season dived in quality, with many critics citing a confusing storyline and poor execution.
Though Netflix has not responded to requests for comment, it’s clear that they have chosen not to renew the show. But fans are still rallying behind it on social media – whether as a joke or in serious protest of Netflix’s decision. Katee Sackhoff also tweeted about the decision Wednesday morning: “So sad but so proud to have taken this ride.”

In this spinoff of Battlestar Galactica, a scientific experiment on a distant planet brings together a group of strangers who must fight for survival when they realize the entire universe is threatened by their discovery. As the crew of Firebird is pulled through a temporal rift or “wormhole” to an area filled with dangerous aliens, they discover that the entire universe is under attack by the Cylons.
The Cylons, who have been in stasis for centuries while their homeworld went through its evolution and are now awakened by a mind-controlling device. This device was a part of the scientists’ experiments, which were intended to allow humans to communicate more easily with one another.

What inspired you to write the Another Life series?
This series is inspired by the film Fire in Space. I was working on another project for Netflix called Red Notice and had a chance to see the movie Fire in Space. I thought that it was an entertaining movie and wanted to explore the possibility of doing a series about it.
What made you choose Katee Sackhoff to be the main actress of Another Life?
I was a fan of Katee Sackhoff’s before casting her. I have seen her as a guest in many other series. I loved her performance in Battlestar Galactica, and when she starred in television shows like Smallville, Alias, and Warehouse 13.
Her work is excellent, so I appreciated her on-screen presence from the beginning of my research. Her performance is believable and natural, which made it easy for me to cast her as the main character in this series.
Why did you choose to write a show about Cylon warriors?
I hadn’t watched Battlestar Galactica since it came out on TV when I was a kid, so I had no idea what the backstory was in that universe, but watching the series felt like being reintroduced to these characters. Watching them interact with each other pulled me instantly into this new world.
Do you have any plans to write more episodes or are you done with the series?
I’ve already started writing another two seasons of Another Life so it’s hard to talk specifics about future stories. I do hope to write more though! I never want to end on a cliffhanger as this series has on Netflix for the fans that have remained encouraging throughout this entire process.
What do you think of Katee Sackhoff’s performance in this TV series?
I think she is perfect in her role. Her character’s personality and development throughout the series felt natural to me. Katee is a very humble person, and she can take direction very well. The writing in this series also allowed her to improvise so we could capture real moments as they occurred.
Do you have a specific audience in mind when you write YA fiction novels?
I think that with any novel, you have to write for yourself. I usually have a group of friends, who are also writers, who read my work as I finish each draft. They tell me if they like it or not. If they don’t think it’s good enough, I throw it out and try again. At first, I thought this was just going to be a fanfiction story that I was writing for my friends and family because they love the Jeff Hardy story just as much as me. I never thought that it would become a novel. I used to tell everyone that it was going to be the best book ever, and I ended up finishing the rough draft in about four months. Then I just let my friends read it, and they told me what they thought about it.
