In a surprising turn of events, Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder was given an Oscar Fan Award for his work on the film. The award was announced earlier today by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “We are proud to recognize Zack Snyder’s achievements in Army of the Dead,” said academy president John Bailey in a statement. “This film is a triumph, and we are excited to see what he does next.”
The award is intended to give the winning filmmaker the opportunity to introduce the winning film on stage at a future Academy Awards presentation. Snyder accepted the honor on behalf of Army of the Dead, which he described as a “chilling drama of swordplay.” He later added, “What I think is great is that we had a very positive impact on young people – not just me but my actors as well.

This new TV series revolves around a viral apocalypse that breaks out in New York City and spreads across America quickly killing most of its citizens. What inspired you to write the Army of the Dead series?
The series is inspired by the book The Zombie Survival Guide. I am a big fan of this book and have read it multiple times. It is a great source of information on the subject of zombies. Army of the Dead is the theatrical release, while the second and third movies are going to be released as sequels.
How do you come up with your characters and their storylines?
People who know me personally know that I have a vivid imagination and this is my creative outlet. When I was writing this series, I had no idea it would be turned into a movie or TV show. The evolution of Army of the Dead has been amazing and exciting.
For me, the inspiration comes from everywhere, including movies and television shows that I watch all throughout the year. Most of the time, I will develop visual references that can help me later on in my process when it comes to filming a certain scene or sequence in production or post-production.
Will there be a movie or TV show based on the books at some point in the future?
A TV show is under development by the History Channel, which I am very excited about. This is not the first time this has happened there was a movie option on The Zombie Survival Guide that was canceled back. The Golden Globe awards were a bit of a surprise as I did not know I was even nominated at all. Then, it was an even bigger surprise to win Best Original Score.
Are you currently working on any other projects that you can tell us about?
I am working on some things, but I cannot talk about them just yet. That being said, I have released a couple of short films that are available on Vimeo and my own channel.
Do you have any other projects that you are working on at the moment?
I am in fact working on another series called “The Detective Files of Dave Bautista”. My company is also working with a few other creative partners to create some great material for TV, movie, and video game projects that we will be announcing soon.
