What inspired the director to write the Minions series?

The series is inspired by the movie Despicable Me where Gru is a villain and he has bad minions. After that Gru decides to give up his evil ways and becomes a father of three girls. The director wants to make an animated series based on this film so he thought of creating a funny animated series where all the characters will be funny and they will be able to create that humorous effect by using soundtracks, dance, graphics and dialogues.
