New footage is revealed of “Avatar: The Way of Water” in which the 18 minutes storyline is different from the theater release. One of the most polarizing films of our time, “Avatar” introduced millions of people to a whole new world. From its captivating storyline to the technologically-advanced settings and characters, it has found its way into mainstream culture and is still an important film for generations to come. To understand how “Avatar” is so effective in creating such a powerful effect on audiences, we need to look no further than its signature figure: water. While water is certainly present in films, it is frequently overlooked as a literary element.

Rather, it is given secondary importance in many films and plays background to the main plot. “Avatar”, however, takes the element of water to the forefront of the story and makes it a vital element that influences all other aspects of the film. The use of water not only helps guide the audience through this fictional engine called Pandora but also allows us to draw important comparisons between humanity and nature in an attempt to understand our world better.

The storyline of the Movie

Begins with a group of Navi trying to save the indigenous forest from the mining machines, but failing. Jake Sully, who has been paralyzed since going to Pandora in 2077, is taken to this forest and implanted into his avatar body by Dr. Norm Spellman, who later entrusts her with Jake’s care and teaches him how to use his body again. The Navi leader T’chala is ordered to shut down the mining machines for 100 years by the chief of their clan, Lo’ak. Lo’ak tells T’chala he will be responsible for making sure her people don’t resume their activities on Pandora until then.

The Navi leader is unhappy with the decision and leaves with a small group led by T’chala’s son Neytiri. Meanwhile, Jake in his avatar body meets the human colony along with her brother Ragan and falls in love with her, however, she soon finds out he is not human but a Navi Avatar. She then leads him on a quest to find his people to stop them from destroying Pandora’s ecosystem. Jake uses his avatar body to fight the Navi who was sent to destroy him and learns through Ragan that he is the son of his mother and Lo’ak.
