The long-awaited trailer for The Bad Batch has finally been released, and it confirms that the film will be hitting theaters in Fall 2022. The dark and twisted love story was written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, who also directed the critically acclaimed A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. The cast includes Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and Diego Luna. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and sees the survivors of different sectors trying to find love, meaning, and happiness. Ewan McGregor also stars as a doctor looking for his niece who has gone missing after she was taken by cannibals. The trailer is well-received by critics, being described as “one of the most imaginative trailers I’ve ever seen.”

The plot of The Bad Batch Series revolves around a young woman who’s been abducted and taken to a wasteland and she is faced with the decision of whether or not to become cannibals, this matter will be taken by her love interest, as well as her fellow captives. What inspired the director to write The Bad Batch Series?
The series is inspired by the locations the directors visited in Texas and Mexico. She says The desert is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited and at the same time, one of the most haunting. I wanted to capture that feeling of being alone in a big, open space. There’s something very destructive about a place like this and it’s easy to imagine yourself as a character in a film as opposed to real life.”
What genre would the director describe this series as?
“It’s very jungle noir,” says Amirpour. “It’s a western set in the future and it’s about isolation and loneliness and not belonging. It’s about people who are different from each other, who are forced to form unlikely friendships.” The director says that the film is about “a post-apocalyptic future where love can grow in unlikely places.”
What inspired the director to cast Keanu Reeves?
“I knew I wanted to write a role for him, and I had this idea of sending him into a desert, a place where he’s very removed from his comfort zone,” says Amirpour. “He’s the dream figure, who on one hand is the voice of reason but on the other hand he’s kind of crazy. He has this childlike wonder with an edge to him.
What are some of the themes explored in the series?
The themes explored how humans feel in spaces that are hostile to them. The film is about survival and love. And how they deal with an indifferent and brutal world (a world which they did not create and know nothing about). There are only two ways of life in this world, or death. The main themes explore the relationship between man and nature as well as human morality towards death as well. The film is basically setting up a story around a girl who is captured by cannibals and starts to struggle to survive. It’s showing the cruelty of nature, the cruelty of men and why people turn cannibalism into a good thing for survival for themselves.
How do directors create such believable and compelling characters?
The director thinks that she creates such compelling and realistic characters by creating a character which you can relate to. “You need to find the last bit of humanity that is possible in any character,” says Amirpour. “I always thought of my characters as human beings, who are very flawed.”
