Writers of “Saw X” confirm wrapping the shooting of the jigsaw return

It’s been some time since director Michael Spierig and Peter Goldsmith released their final installment to the Saw franchise, Jigsaw. Now fans will be able to see where we left off with a new installment, according to the film’s writer. After filming on Saw 10 has wrapped, it will premiere in theaters sometime in 2023. The film was written by Peter Goldsmith and directed by Michael Spierig and is currently in production as of 2022.

According to Goldsmith, “Well it was a labor of love and we’re so excited to finally be able to share it with the world. We wrote it specifically with Tobin Bell in mind and we couldn’t be happier that he agreed to come back for one last time. This movie is about Jigsaw’s final game and how his legacy will continue leading up to the original film. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Background of the “Saw X”

Some new friends of John Kramer move into the area and everything is fine until he crosses paths with another of his old victims, this one from his very first game. As the body count begins to grow, John finds out that his own life is at stake as well. While he struggles to complete a game that was never meant for him, he is also forced to face some secrets in his past that he has kept hidden even from himself.

Production of the film began in October  2021. Some of these updates came from director Spierig himself, who posted a picture on his Twitter account showing the writing team brainstorming ideas. It was also stated by Spierig that he used production maps and locations to help him visualize the film’s storyboard. Production on the film has been going smoothly, and as of December 2021, a script is 90% written as well as a final location scout has already been completed.

The excepted storyline of the movie

The story centers around John Kramer’s final game, in which he prepares to kill himself. The movie focuses on the people who are affected by the game and how their lives are changed in some way following the completion of his work. By this point, John is suffering from terminal cancer, and his desire to complete the game has become greater than ever. After being diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer in 2012, Bell received regular chemotherapy and radiation. 

Goldsmith went on to say “It will be a fun ride, with lots of surprises and some great new traps from the mind of Jigsaw. I think everyone will be excited with how it all concludes.” No news has been released as to who else will be returning from past installments of the franchise, but John Kramer’s son and Detective Mark Hoffman will likely make appearances in the upcoming film.

The release date of the movie

According to sources, the film is expected to release on October 27, 2023. It has also been announced that the film will only be released in theaters in the U.S. and Canada, with a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release following shortly after.
